Shortly after dawn one day last week, about 200 policemen surrounded a three-story brick house in Philadelphia, "Surrender immediately," demanded an officer through a bullhorn. The shouted reply: "You'll have to bring us out dead." The speaker was Chuckie Africa, a spokesman for the house's residents, all members of MOVE, a radical back-to-nature cult that had staved off eviction for 15 months (TIME, Aug. 14).

as the cultists screamed obscenities and their children cried, police used a bulldozer to knock down a wooden barricade and a crane to knock out windows. Firemen pumped streams of water through a cellar window, sending rats, dogs and people scurrying to safety. Suddenly, shots rang out. Police lobbed tear gas and smoke bombs into the house. After 45 minutes, the MOVE members —twelve adults and eleven children—stumbled out. The toll: one policeman dead; seven policemen, five firemen, three MOVE members and three bystanders wounded.

The cult members were taken to jail and charged with murder. The children were washed, deloused and turned over to city welfare agencies. The house was leveled to the ground by a wrecking crew.

After 1 year and 6 very long month Spotty and I have a quiet place we call "home."

We have no TV, no bed, no sofa for her to crawl under but we do have each other.

It was not easy and the memories of nights spent in the heat, the floods, and te tears haunt me every single day. I will never forget or recover from the events leading up to the event... and worse... the months that followed.

The months of silence where everyone I knew looked the other way.

I saw post on my wall... asking me distribute campaign posters I see my nae listed on the Mayors Committiee of Exemplary Educators who "support" his initiatives.

I receive daily emails from people seeking my help for this, that, or the other. $10 here, $25 there, write a letter, call Congress, work the phone bank... I do work the phone bank... from home.. I work the internet... I work the Twitter... I do it for free and for those who are unable to get their voices or their message to the public. People in need of housing, food, emergency services... people who need an empathetic ear and the voice of experience.

Yes, I work. I do not get paid, in fact it cost me quite a bit to maintain the ability to reach out to the public to raise awareness. 1/3 of my monthly income is spent on my BlackBerry mobile tweet machine, blogging device, and a "slowband" connection that either wors o it doesn't... i just keep trying.. baby steps.

TODAY! Spotty #needs Advantage Multi for felines 9-18lbs. It is available at Value Vet or any number of places. The cost is $113.25 for a 6 month supply to treat fleas, heartworm, earmites, and intestinal parasites. Spotty is alergic to many pet meds, through trial and error I have learned that product keeps her safe and gives peace of mind. She can't ask for help... no one likes to ask for help... I don't do it for myself, but SPOTTY NEEDS!

As her care taker it is my responsibility to take care of those needs. SPOTTY NEEDS. So I am her voice. I am her person.

North Eastern Pennsylvania general information line for Social Security.

I was informed that the TN Office (as listed by the state on Document
MCC Change Schedule: Dev 10Aug09) was closed.

TennCare Solutions : 1-800-873-3192.

Even though she claimed to have no information regarding the Health
plan change in Tennessee, she did manage to tell me that any changes
to my benefits are NOT a Social Security issue and told me to call the
IRS.

Refused to give me her Employee ID or reference no. for the call.

Also refused to mail or provide any information regarding federal law
rights to legal representation. [Publication No. 05-10075]

She was brief, bitchy, and apathetic. Too busy to even log the call.
Told me to go to my "local office" if i wish to pick up a copy of the
publication i requested.

The one everyone seems to ignore: the law.
The one that says clear as day, that I do, in fact, have federal law rights.

$44 dollars round trip.  More than my food stamps, but less than my electric bill.

Completely oblivious to federal law and my rights to appeal. Or at
least, did a damn good job pretending.

I don't waste time with idiots.

So time marches on, as my life continues to stand still.
